As a guy, you will often find your self in a situation where you have to throw together something to eat quickly. Whether it is having the guys over for the game, out camping with your family, having a unexpected guest or girl over to stay the night, whatever the occasion, it will happen at a time when you did not plan for. Having the right ingredients for a quick bite is not always possible.
Thankfully, this age old bread recipe, can be made with simple ingredients most people have on hand. If not, hopefully after reading this, you will make sure to always have at least these 4 simple basics in your cupboard or pantry at home, or your food box when out camping or off-roading. Here is the quick bread recipe for all occasions.
- 2 Cups Flour
- 1 T Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Canola Oil
- 1 1/4 Cup Lukewarm Water
Start by mixing the flour, salt, baking powder and 2 teaspoons canola oil together in a mixing bowl. Add 1 cup of water and mix. Continue adding water whilst mixing until it reaches the tacky consistency of pizza dough.
The knead the dough for a few minutes, and let it rest in a greased bowl for around 30 to 60 minutes.
Thereafter, divide the dough into 6 pieces and roll each of them out very thin onto a floured surface, around the thickness of a tortilla.
Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle to around 350°F and add 1 tablespoon of canola oil to the skillet. Heat the oil until hot but not smoking.
Toss in each piece of dough and cook until golden brown spots appear on one side, before flipping it over and then cook other side until it is the same.
Super easy and versatile, these can be made before hand and kept for up to 2 days or frozen in a Zip lock bag for much longer.
There you have it, quick flatbread for when you need it.
